74 of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Halifax Infirmary on July 19, 2022.
Jimmy was born in Halifax NS on February 11,1948 to Genevieve Margaret (DeBaie) Stewart and Donald Angus Stewart.
Jimmy was a construction worker, he spent his career with Black and MacDonald Ltd and retired after 37 years of service. Jimmy married the love of his life Joan Elizabeth Grady. They met when they were young teenagers and celebrated 54 years of marriage.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy is predeceased by his sisters Donna Marie Kiley, Catherine Ester Elyk, Sharon Ann Stewart; brothers Donald and Angus Stewart.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Joan Elizabeth Stewart; son, Jimmy Stewart; daughter, Kelly Ann Stewart; grandsons, Jonathan Stewart and Ellyott Stewart; his brothers, Robert (Barb) Stewart, Edward Stewart and Gillis (Susan) Stewart; sisters, Jean (Neil) Knutson, Marguerite Wheeler, Mary Ellen Doucet; and brother-in-law, John Elyk.
He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.
Jimmy’s happy place was at their summer home in St. Francis Harbour, where he liked to fly fish and entertain family and friends. After a “few” he would delight you with a song, usually his favorite ”Nobody’s Child” or a good old traditional one with Gaelic roots from his boyhood spent in Southwest Margaree. Jimmy enjoyed hearing and sharing the old stories from the past. He was a sports fan and never missed a baseball or hockey game.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 25th, 2022 at 11:00 AM at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, NS.
