Obituary of Phyllis Mae Cassie

It is with great sadness the family of Phyllis Cassie (nee Skene) announce her passing on July 13, 2022, at age 94. Phyllis will be remembered with love by, her daughters Donna and Susan (Fred), sons Ronnie and Richard (Johanna) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. As well as her sister Margaret, Sister-in-law Lorna (Ray), brothers-in-law, Gary (Margaret) and Sandy (Karin). She was pre-deceased by her husband David James (Jim), sons Gordon, Brian, Robert, daughter Barbara, and grandchild Dorothy, sister Mary and several other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Phyllis met Jim in Winnipeg and they married on October 13, 1952, and experienced many adventures together while living in Germany, Winnipeg, Quebec City, Montreal, Ontario, and Halifax until his passing in 1992. She was a loving mother of a large family whom she supported and cared for often single-handedly when husband Jim was working away from home on behalf of the Canadian military. Although often seen as quiet she was also strong and determined when needed. Despite the grief of losing her husband and four children she was able to still find joy and happiness in life and pleasure in simple things like a good cup of tea and her chips. As busy as she was, she often shared her beautiful artistic talents in knitting and sewing gifts with many families and friends. Her daughter Donna became her best friend in her later years with many adventures, laughs and shenanigans between them. Momma will be missed by all those who knew her and loved her. Thanks to the staff of Northwood Care home for the care and kindness you showed our Momma. She never failed to keep you on their toes. A celebration of life will be held on her birthday, July 24, 2022, for family only. Open celebration at Donna’s Friday evening through Sunday morning.
