Andrew R. Janes Sr.
Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Andrew Roland Janes Sr. on July 10, 2022 at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Frank and Marguerite (Martin) Janes.
In dad’s younger years, he was an avid swimmer and enjoyed travelling across Canada. He was employed at the Miners Forum with his parents helping run the canteen in Glace Bay.
Working numerous jobs, such as a cook on the boats in Lunenburg or managing the Canadian Tire Warehouse in Toronto before settling back to Reserve Mines; he was then married and raised his four children in Halifax, later moving back home to Glace Bay to spend the rest of his days.
Our dad was always the type of person to help a neighbour whether it was odd jobs, mechanical or just to lend an ear or share the odd drink with friends. Thank you to his life long friend, Doug Turner and dear neighbors, Brian LeBlanc and Clarence for always being there.
There is no doubt our father will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all, especially by his four children.
Andrew is survived by his three sons, Frank Jr., Derek, and Andrew Jr.; daughter, Jacqueline Janes; brothers, Eddie, Charlie and Fred (Charlene); four sisters, Lorraine (Larry) Slykhuis, Frances Janes, Gertrude Janes and Roxanne (Cecil) Williams; his three precious grandchildren Kyla Munroe, Kyle Evans, Logan Vassos and Laryssa Vassos as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Frank Janes Jr., Johnny Martin; sister, Claudine Bennett; niece, Alexis Gillis and nephews, Terry Wilson.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, July 15, 2022 from 12-2 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199), with a burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
