Obituary of Jonathan Robert Emery Shuman

It is with much sorrow and grief, we announce the death of our only and beloved child, Jonathan Shuman, who passed away on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022. Jonathan was born on March 18th, 2000, in Penticton, British Columbia; the biological son of Billy Johnston and Karen Ellis. He was adopted at birth by Fred and Claudette Shuman, Bedford, Nova Scotia. Jonathan attended Halifax Christian Academy, Sandy Lake Academy, Rocky Lake Jr High and Charles P. Allen High School. In his late teens, Jonathan struggled with feelings of unworthiness, which progressed to paranoia. Although he confessed Jesus Christ as Savior and was baptized, Jonathan never seemed to assimilate Christ’s unconditional love and acceptance; rather, his perceived life experience and struggles reinforced this feeling of unworthiness, which culminated in his suicide. He will always be remembered as kind, generous and funny. Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8th, 2022, with reception to follow, in Rock Church, 222 Sackville Drive.
