It had been years since I had been in touch with Cliff. Yet, the power of the connection we made so many years ago -- indulging in our shared interest in developing our race car driving skills -- was one that remained firm and indelible. Added to which was our respective connection to aviation -- an activity and lifestyle entrenched in each of our respective families -- that added to the security of an easily overlapping bond. Despite all the years that have gone by since we last spoke, I'd never forgot to wonder, on a very frequent basis, how Cliff was doing. And I'd always imagined that whatever he'd been up to, he was doing it with the same characteristic engaging personality, easy-going nature, catchy sense of good humour blended with his spot-on observations of all and anything that was going on in the world, or around him. He was, quite simply, a wonderful guy to have had the pleasure of crossing paths with in life. Brief though the times were that we touched base, if ever there could be more natural a friend, I cannot think of one. In every way, this says so much about the kind of guy Cliff was. He was as natural as they come, and he lived life the right way: balancing it perfectly between when it needed to be serious, and when it needed to be anything but. So few seem to achieve such a state of equilibrium. A very memorable man who left a mark for which I'll always be grateful. Whenever I reflect on the times we touched base -- longer ago than I wish they were -- I always do so with a gentle laugh and an easy smile. The best friendships are always that way... Rest in Peace, my friend.

Cliff was such a kind soul. Always a pleasure to talk to. He never complained about being sick nor did he bring it up. A brave and inspirational person.

Cliffy was a Friday night hockey fixture for many years at Dalhousie, and then at Saint Mary’s. His unique sense of humour and good sportsmanlike attitude were tremendous contributions to the camaraderie which makes our Friday night pastime so enjoyable for all who participate. Although he was unable to play in recent times due to his declining health, he was very clear that he would be back on the ice with us again just as soon as he was able. That says much about his character and the positive outlook he had. Those of us who had the honour of lacing up with Cliff over the years will miss his tenacity on the ice and his comradeship on the bench and in the room. My sincere condolences go out to his family.

I fondly remember Cliff, during our days as basketball teammates at QEH. He was competitive, great teammate, stoic in nature, uniquely humorous and his long dangling hair was pronounced! A number of years ago, a teammate of ours, Thane Smith, informed me that Cliff was in hospital. When I visited this gentleman, I was not surprised to see him, humbly and courageously battle his health ailments. My deepest condolences to his life partner, Allison, brother Scott, rest of Cliff's family and friends.

What an honour it was to have played with Cliff…he was truly one of the guys and was a pleasure to be around. He touched all of us in a special way and I’m forever grateful to have spent time chasing him around the ice.
So God speed Cliff and we will all lace up in another life I’m hoping.

I am very saddened to hear of Cliff's passing. Condolences to his family and all who knew him.
Cliff and I used to play hockey at Dalhousie on Friday nights and, even though he took up the sport later in life, he was still a force to be reckoned with. I will always recall his tenaciousness. I played defence and would take notice if Cliffy was on the opposing team because his fore-check didn't give me much time to do anything with the puck. This was surprising because his demeanour off the ice was easy-going and relaxed. Being very amiable and genuine made him a well-respected member of our hockey family.
I am embarrassed to say that I learned many things about Cliff by reading his obituary but that goes to show that he was humble and unassuming. He rarely spoke of his many accomplishments even though he had much to boast about. I haven’t seen him much in the last few years but, when I did, it was easy to be impressed by his optimistic and upbeat outlook after everything that he was going through. His zest for life continued.
Speaking for his hockey brothers, we will always be thankful in knowing him, we will miss his special wit, and his memory will always be celebrated. We will not forget the special person he was.
RIP Cliffy

I had the pleasure of meeting Cliff on several occasions at Zwicker Lake where I have a cottage near his aunt and cousins, The Mosher's. I was always interested to see what he would be up to when he showed up with Peter. I remember he invented some water ski contraption so his cousin, Peter could get up more easily on the back of his boat. I was greatly entertained watching them play with that for hours. It was fun to see him waterski as well.(very athletic in all that he did) Cliff was always friendly and engaging. He had a great sense of humour and loved to joke. I will definitely miss seeing him at the lake. My deepest condolences to Allison and the family.

Rest in Peace Uncle Cliff. Every time I have a donair I will remember how we shared a love for them. I will keep practicing making egg tarts and getting the pastry right. You used to fly above the world in a plane, now you get to do it with your own wings. Make sure you stop in and say hi :)
