Joseph Alan Neville
Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Joseph Nevile, age 84, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family, after a short courageous battle with cancer which he fought bravely until the end.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (Moore) Neville.
Joe held many jobs over the years, he was employed with Fitzgerald’s Bakery, Highland Motors, Town of Glace Bay- Water Dept, Devco and High Pressure and Structure Welding for 32 years. He enjoyed going for drives with his long time friend, Dorothy Roche, chats in the barn with his old friends, Allister McCuish and Kenny Seymour. You can take the boy out of the Hub but you cant take the Hub out of the boy.
A great father and grandfather, the door was always open and you could always come by and he would be there for you to sit and listen.
He loved to teach his children and grandchildren how to fix things and through this he taught them a very good work ethic. From a young age he had a love for anything with wheels, he not only loved fixing them but the thrill of the chase in finding them and making the deal to buy them. You never knew what he was going to drive or have towed in the yard, from military vehicles, tractors and antiques – the list was endless. He took pride in getting the basket cases running again. Joe was a legend on Vet Street, his motto was to never give up which he instilled this in his family.
Joe is survived by his two sons, Joey Neville (Bernice Laundry), Ronnie (Kim) Neville; daughter, Alana (Shawn) Morrison; brother, James; four sisters, Dolores Roach, Joan Degiobbi, Agnes Neville and Marie Neville; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Morgan, and Kaidan Neville, Amanda Morrison , Logan, Brittany and Alexis MacMaster; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Wallace Road, Glace Bay, N.S. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 10 a.m.
In memory of Joe, donations may be sent to the Cancer Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The family would like to thank the nurses at 3 South Glace Bay Hospital, Palliative Care, Home Care, VON Drs. Laegere, Burns and MacLauglin.
