Carol Cecilia. Helle (O’Connell) Glace Bay It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Cecilia Helle (nee O’Connell), age 75, on Monday, May 21, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 17, 1942 in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (nee Gouthro) O’Connell. The oldest of 12 children, Carol grew up on Tenth Street in Glace Bay. She enjoyed her career self employed as a hairdresser, a passion which afforded her many cherished friendships over the years. Carol loved to dance, spending many Saturday nights at the Glace Bay Senior Citizens & Pensioners Club or the Gardiner Mines Senior Citizens & Pensioners Club creating memories with her beloved husband and friends. She loved to laugh and tell jokes, and nothing made her happier than to put a smile on your face. This was her favourite pastime. Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 53 years, John, and their three children, John (Paula) Helle of Sydney, Angela (Jamie) Battiste of Glace Bay, and Kerri (Stuart) MacLeod of Riverview, NB. She leaves behind her three cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Andrea Battiste of Glace Bay, and Lauren MacLeod of Riverview, NB. She will be sorely missed by her beloved dog, Harley. She is survived by three sisters, Marie Kelly and Rose O’Connell of Glace Bay, and Cathy (Frank) Bird of Dartmouth; six brothers, Michael (Mary) O’Connell, Francis (Ruth) O’Connell, Leo (Judy Nightingale) O’Connell, John Blaise O’Connell, and Dan Joe (Linda) O’Connell, all of Glace Bay, and Ray O’Connell of Dartmouth; one brother in law, Victor Helle of New Waterford, and two sister in laws, Theresa Helle of New Waterford, and Mary O’Connell of Glace Bay. She has many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her in-laws, Victor and Clenda (nee Kendall) Helle, of New Waterford; her sister Patricia (Patsy) Baillie and her brother Adrian O’Connell, both of Glace Bay; five brother in laws, Paul Helle, Henry Digero, and Joe Doucette, of New Waterford, Jerome Kelly and Brian Baillie, of Glace Bay; three sister in laws, Mary Digero, Julia (Sis) Doucette, and Betty Axeworthy, all of New Waterford. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St.,Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199. A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Father Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment to follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glace Bay Food Bank, the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, or the charity of your choice.
