Obituary of Laura Arabella MacRae

MacRae (Baker), Laura Arabella Age 97 of Halifax passed away peacefully in Parkstone Enhanced Care on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Born in Liscomb on April 19, 1921, Laura was the daughter of the late Irvin and Blanche (Dingle) Baker. She was affectionately known as the “Bait Baby” born on the setting day of lobster season. She is survived by brother, Frank; daughters, Marilyn Rappaport and Nancy Grandy (Doug Mullenger); son-in-law Gary Rappaport; grandchildren, Erin Galliott (Derek), Drew Rappaport and Haley Grant (Matt); great grandchildren, Jacob and Josh Galliott, Ava and Zachary Grant. Laura was predeceased by her loving husband, Harvey of 65 years; brothers, Henry and Bill; sister, Vera Blake; and son-in-law, Harold Grandy. She was a devoted wife and mother. Laura enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading and doing the weekly Lexicon. She was a homemaker and dedicated sales employee at Eaton’s Department Store for many years. Laura always had fond memories growing up in Liscomb and attending St. Luke’s Anglican Church. In later years she attended St. Mark’s Anglican Church in north end Halifax. The family extends warm thanks to Gordon MacIntosh (Susan) for all the phone calls reminiscing days gone by of relatives and friends that lived between Liscomb and Sherbrooke; Gloria Ferris for her special visits which meant so much; and her niece, Vera Deal for her kindness. Tracey’s Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford (902-835-4212). As per Laura’s wishes, there will be a private interment at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Liscomb at a later date.
