Obituary of Carol Ann Watkins Maidment
Carol Ann Watkins Maidment, 65
It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Ann announce her sudden passing on April 27, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born and raised in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Alexander MacDougall and Beulah Jean (Turnbull) MacDougall. Carol was “ma,” grandma, wife, sister, auntie, and a friend to many. She loved to sing and was a long-time member of the Coal Town Chorus. Carol also loved children and spent many years as a pre-school teacher at Townhouse. She will always be remembered for her love of life, her beautiful singing voice and for the affection she showed to those around her. She loved being around people and spending time chatting with them to get to know them and having a good laugh. Carol also enjoyed camping and spending time with her “Lakeview Treasures family” as she and Roy spent as much time as possible there each summer where she enjoyed having her son Brent play the guitar and sing all the songs she was requesting. Everyone was welcome.
Carol is survived by the love of her life Roy Maidment; son, John Brent Watkins; step-son Ricky (Marie) Watkins; step-daughters Kristy Lynn (Maidment) Leckner and Marnie-Ann (Maidment) Coates; brothers, Al (Cathy) MacDougall and Danny (Irene) McDougall; sisters, Margaret MacDougall and Danette MacDougall Maguire; sisters-in-law Linda (Dave) McNeil, Sharon (Gordie) Brewer, Denise (Frank) Maidment and Lisa Maidment; and grandchildren John James 'JJ' Watkins, Demi Watkins, Zoe Watkins, Tristan Watkins, Bo Watkins, Ryan Coates, Joel Coates, and Isabella Leckner ;mother-in-law, Jessie Maidment and her Watkins family, Brenda MacDonald, Paul, Dwayne, Roddy, Mickey (Janice), Francis Glen, Lynn (David) Deering.
Carol was blessed to have many nieces and nephews as well as a large circle of cousins whom she loved dearly and who loved her.
Besides her parents, Carol is predeceased by her first husband, Butch Watkins, brother Alex MacDougall (in infancy), brother Douglas MacDougall, sister Lexie Butt, mother-in-law Mary Bonner, father-in-law Mick Watkins, father-in-law Wilfred Maidment, and brothers-in-law Neil Maguire, Ricky Watkins, Harold Watkins, and Kevin MacDonald.

Those we love
Don’t go away,
They walk beside us
But always near,
So loved, so missed,
So very dear.
