Obituary of Glenda Jean Redden

Age 82. Northwood, Bedford Campus, died April 24th 2022, after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Halifax on August 26, 1939, to the late H. Palmer and Edna (Merrick) Oxner. Glenda graduated from Dalhousie University with a B.A., B.Ed. and a M.A. She was an educator all her life, a teacher in Halifax, Timberlea and Five Island Lake, before moving to the N.S. Dept. of Education as the Social Studies Consultant, ending her career as the Coordinator for Multiculturalism. After retirement, in 1998, Rod and Glenda moved to Chester Basin. Glenda had been involved in many professional organizations and clubs throughout the decades including spearheading Chester Basin’s 250th Anniversary in 2010, winning a Tourism Award for her efforts. She was very involved in her church, in many positions over the years, including Trinity UCW President (Mahone Bay). She was an ardent supporter of many charitable causes. Glenda is survived by her daughter, Ellen Mclaughlin (Brendon); son, Merrick (Tracey); grandchildren, Noah, Gracelyn, and Kayleigh; brother, Fred; sister-in-law, Fay Frowd (Harley); nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by husband, Rodney E. Redden in 2020; sister-in-law, Barbara (Rockwell) Oxner. Thank you to all those who took care of mom in the last years of her life, including the home care workers in Chester Basin, the health care workers at Heart of the Valley and Northwood and ever supporting cousin Ann Nielsen. Arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Monday May 2, 2022 starting at 1 pm, with the service at 2 pm followed by a reception. Donations in Glenda’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
