Margaret "Peggy" Currie Reserve Mines It is with profound sorrow we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Margaret “Peggy” Currie, age 84, on April 8, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, NS. Peggy spent the better part of 75 years in Reserve Mines, a community of people dear to her heart. Peggy is survived by her daughter Margaret (Jimmy) Graham; sons Bruce (Cathy), Donnie (Karen) and Blaise (Cathy) Currie. Her precious grandchildren: AJ (Chelsea), Jonathan (Candace), Colin (Tiara), Danielle (John), Alicia (Alex), Dexter, Carter (Jill), Nathan and Maranne; great-grandchildren Nathan and Camryn, Quinn and Ella, Ellis, and Makenna. Peggy is also survived by her extended family, Polly Tighe, Colleen Billard, Allene Burchell, and Verna Petrie. Siblings: Mary Stephens, Norman (Leila) Dowland, Lorna (Ken) Pallant, Cathy (Gary) Norwick and Donnie (Charlene) Dowland, Currie family members and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was a gentle soul. She was the epitome of kindness, faith, loyalty and love. In her younger years, Peggy was a dedicated volunteer with Revenue Canada and her services continued throughout her life. Peggy was most notorious for her baking skills, particularly for her Nanny buns and cookies made with love much to the delight of her family and friends. She loved a family gathering, particularly Christmas, New Years Day and Easter. She had a fondness for sweets and a good cup of tea and welcomed visitors to her kitchen table to share in both. Peggy was an avid reader and enjoyed her Suduko puzzles. She loved her fur friends, especially Bosco and Rizzo. Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband Allister, mother Marie Dowland, a daughter in infancy, brother Bobby, special cousins Allan and Midi McMullin, Audrey McMullin, Lila Gillis, Leone Campbell, Lorraine Bourgeios, Velma Dawson, Sonny McMullin, Janis Heffernan, Billy McMullin; and her Currie in-laws. The family wishes to thank the 4D nursing staff, palliative care nursing staff at the CBRH, and Dr. Aboud for their care and compassion. Special thank you to Jackie Brake for her kindness and guidance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Peggy to Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Meals on Wheels program at 165 Main Street, Reserve Mines, B1C 1C7.
