Please share a memory of Rick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard David George Morford, 73 Donkin It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our father Richard David George Morford, known as Rick and fondly called Goat by his family. Rick, 73, passed away March 5, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his son Michael and brother Derek at his bedside. Rick was born in London, England on August 5, 1948, to the late Rosalind (Childs) and Victor Morford. He was the third child and eldest son of nine children. As a youth, Rick enjoyed Little League baseball. His first “real” job was at the Heavy Water Plant. As a young man he worked on a dude ranch in Alberta, where he overcame his fear of horses. In Montreal, he worked with MP Photography, advertising for prominent companies until he returned to Alberta to open a branch office there. He returned to Montreal in the eighties. In 1991, he moved to Donkin where he would raise his children. Rick enjoyed fly tying and fishing. He was artistic and creative. He was kind and caring and had a big heart. He spoke his mind and was not afraid to voice his opinion! He was an animal lover and loved his cat, Kitty Kitty. He faithfully fed the neighborhood strays. Rick is survived by his sons: Matthieu (Karla), PEI, Jonathan, PEI, and Michael (Maude) Montreal; a daughter Sarah (Jordan) Vigh, British Columbia; grandchildren: Sebastian, Abby, Charlotte, Olivia, Coralie, and Thomas; as well as the mother of his children, Sylvie. He leaves behind brothers: Derek (Michele), Donkin; Stephen, Ottawa; Kent (Mary) Donkin; and sisters: Linda MacKay, Donkin; Jean (Rick) Gardiner, Glace Bay; Patricia (Vince) George, Alberta; Eileen (Harris) Martin, Donkin; Glynis (Brent) Clarke, Donkin; and his aunt Joy (Childs) Bush, England. Along with his parents, Rick was predeceased by a brother-in-law Eric MacKay. Thank you to all the wonderful doctors, nursing staff and paramedics who treated Rick with such care, dignity, and respect. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crohn’s/Colitis Society of Canada or the Feral Cat Society, or charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. A Memorial Service will be held in the summer.
