Obituary of Hecky MacDougall

Please share a memory of Hecky to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hectorene “Hecky” MacDougall,91 Glace Bay Our Mother, a beautiful, kind, gentle soul, passed away peacefully Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Hecky was born in South Harbour Cape Breton to the late Daniel J and Annie B MacDonald. At an early age, Ma left South Harbour to attend the Empire School of Business in Sydney. Upon graduation, she began her career working for a brief time with Stan the Man and spent the rest of her working days at Seaboard Industrial Supply. Although she moved to Glace Bay for employment and to start her family, South Harbour was always so near and dear to her heart. Ma spent many vacations and any weekend possible at the homestead with Frank and the kids in tow to keep close ties with her siblings. Ma was a caring grandmother, affectionately known Nanny Dougall and a terrific baker and cook, but her true gift was her incredible knitting skills. It was more than just a hobby; it was her passion. Sweaters of hers are worn by many people far and wide, from actor Alan Arkin to New York billionaires as well as tourists visiting the Margaree Harbour Craft and Gift shop, where shop owner and close friend Marilyn kept her busy with requests for more. Yarn and needles were always close by. Ma is survived by daughters, Heather (Edward) Burton, Janice Moriarty, and son Robert; sons-in-law, Colin MacAdam and Tom Moriarty; grandchildren: Dale (Jill) Burton, Darren (Carla) Burton, Dean (Tuesdaie) Burton, Colin Francis (Chelsie) MacAdam, Colton (Amanda) MacAdam, Chelsea (Greg) Moriarty, Cora Leigh (Steven) Rutledge, Erin Moriarty, Adam (Natalie) MacDougall, Katie (Andrew) MacDougall, Robyn (Logan) MacDougall; great-grandchildren: Lauren, Cole, Layla, and Tyler Burton; sister-in-law, Maddie MacDonald, special friend Betty Campell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Hecky was predeceased by husband Frank, daughter Cindy MacAdam, and daughter-in-law, Cathy MacDougall. Ma was the last surviving member of the South Harbour MacDonald clan and was predeceased by sisters, Jane, Mary Catherine, Evelyn, Janet, and Edith, brothers, Donald, Murdock, Munro, and special nephews David MacDonald, and Walter MacLeod. Special thanks to the team of 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the wonderful support and care shown to Ma during her recent illness.
