It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John ‘Hooks’ Boutilier on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with his daughters by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Shirley (Bennett) Boutilier.
Hooks enjoyed playing a good game of tarabish and darts at Branch 40 and Branch 3 Legions; he loved to watch baseball and hockey, in particular when the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs were playing. He appreciated spending time with family and friends.
John is survived by his son, Billy Joe; daughters, Carrie (Joey), Amanda (Joe) and Crystal (Craig); brothers, Blaise and Dwayne (Mary); sisters, Debbie (Shelly), Belinda (Darren), Elaine (Steve) and Lois (Frankie); 12 grandchildren, Tamara, Joseph, Kayleigh, Alex, Chloe, Emma, MacKenzie, Lucas, Sabbastion, Rebbecca, Chase and Abigail; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by step father, Billy; partner, Mary Lou; son, John Thomas Charles; grandson, Nicholas; brother, Darrell.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 11- 1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding, all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Huntington Disease Society or Palliative Care, Sydney.
