Obituary of Thelma Lucy LeBlanc

Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 87, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2022, with the love of her family surrounding her. Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Henry LeBlanc; her children, Jody (Faye), Rosanne (Roger), Denise (Shannon), Dan (Kim); her grandchildren, Rita-Clare, Cora-Lee, Sloan, Luke, Nate, and Elle; and her sisters, Peggy, Neita and Bonnie. She was predeceased by her parents, Rose and David Jenkins. “Little Thelma’s” story was intertwined with her three sisters. They traveled, shopped and laughed together for their whole lives. They were always each other’s support and safety net. Thelma and Joe were one of the founding families in Fairview; building their little blue house on Main Avenue in 1959, raising a family of four, retiring and rebuilding after a fire. Thelma loved decorating her house for every holiday, especially Christmas. The candy canes that Joe made for her were put up outside every year. Thelma was a dedicated hockey, soccer and swimming mom, and became deeply involved with the Parent’s Guild of the Convent of the Sacred Heart. She worked for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in the North End for 16 years; she managed the Church’s business office efficiently and was always up to date with the latest news. She was a huge fan of Queen Elizabeth II and all things royal; her trips to the UK with her sisters were cherished memories. For the past almost 30 years, everyone (related or not) called her Nanny; she loved her grandchildren deeply and revelled in her role of gift-giver and cheerleader. Thelma was extremely well-read and informed, loved discussing politics and had an opinion about almost everything (and she didn’t mind sharing). She only had to shoot you “the look” and you knew immediately that something was not right. She was fiercely independent and encouraged critical thought in her children and grandchildren. Even with her diagnosis of Alzheimer's, she was always able to communicate what she liked and most importantly, didn’t like. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Thelma’s caregivers and the Continuing Care Team for their support and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Thelma’s name can be made to the Northwood Foundation. www.northwoodfoundation.ca / 902-454-3069 In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A drop-in Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 5th from 1-3pm at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Crescent, Halifax. A private family service to follow. Masking and proof of vaccination required.
