Obituary of Erik MacKinnon

Erik MacKinnon Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of our wonderful husband, father, brother and uncle, Leif Erikson MacKinnon, age 56 at home on February 18, 2022. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Arsenault) MacKinnon. He was employed at MacGillivray Guest Home for over 30 years. Erik enjoyed working on engines, tinkering around the yard, and collecting treasures. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially with the apple of his eye, his daughter Maisie. Erik is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Corbett) MacKinnon; his precious daughter Maisie; brothers, Patrick (Jim), Peyton, Dwight, George (Janet), Bernie; sisters, Shirley Furey, Brenda (Steve) Earl, Lena Koziel, Natalie (Terry) Jewells, Beverly (Richard) Dilney, Elishia (Joseph) Nearing; mother-in-law, Marjorie Corbett; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Erik was predeceased by his sister in infancy, Patricia; father-in-law, Ivan Corbett; brother-in-law, Ferman Furey. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Covid – 19 restrictions do apply. Proof of double vaccination and Government Photo ID will be required.
