Please excuse the tardiness of this tribute. I just found out about Joan's passing today. Joan and I were friends in the early 1970s when we both lived in St. John's, NL. Although it has been a very long time since we went our separate ways, I often think of her as one of the most spiritual and lovely people that I've ever met. My deepest condolences.

Joan was a very special person, and we will always cherish wonderful memories of our adventures together in PEI, camping and hiking in Parrsboro, Joggins, and Blue Beach, as well as many wonderful Christmas and Birthday celebrations. We even had a special guest appearance at one of Laura’s birthday parties by “Indiana Joan”!
Our most sincere condolences to Les, Andrew and Adrian.

My sincere sympathies to all of Joan’s family and friends. We met as summer students working on the William Carson about a half century ago and again later when she was at Memorial University for a while. We exchanged occasional greetings and family news through mutual friends after that but did not meet again though strong memories of our friendship have always persisted. Rest in peace Joan.
Ted, St. John’s, NL

My deepest condolences to Les, Adrian and Andrew at this time. I had the pleasure of being Administrative Assistant to Joan for a brief time back in the early 2000s when she was the Marine Superintendent for Coast Guard in Marine House. When I found out she was from Wesleyville, NL, I realized that we could be related as my Grandmother was a Mary Jane Kean from Wesleyville. Funny, smart, gracious & feisty when she needed to be, she will be missed by all who knew her. I was proud to have known and worked with her for only a year but it was by far one of the best times in my working career. She once told me a funny story of a day when she was out diving with a group of men. It’s not the right forum for telling it here but suffice it to say, I will always remember her punch line to the men. Being female in a fore mostly man’s world, Joan always knew the right thing to say. You truly were an Agent of Change.
I believe Joan is at a better gathering of those who know her & loved her now. Rest In Peace ❤️

Dear Les, Andrew, and Adrian –
While I won’t be able to attend the services in Halifax due to an out-of-town business trip, my thoughts are with you. Being on a business trip is perhaps a fitting inspiration for me to think about Joan – as we spent many hours travelling together during her years at NRC. Joan has had a very substantial impact on my life and my career – our conversations shaped many of my professional and personal views. As you can imagine, Joan’s name often comes up – and will no doubt continue to come up – around boardroom tables at work and our dinner table at home. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

My condolences to the family for the loss of Joan, who accomplished much and cared for many. We can look forward to the promise made in the Bible when “no resident will say: “I am sick””. (Isaiah 33:24) This will be when God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more” because these former things will have passed away, on earth . (Revelation 21:4)

I was so sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. I was honoured to be able to have Joan as a close friend from when met in summer camp always last in line going to the beach and all through school. She was an amazing person. Although we did not see much of each other over the years I always will remember and love her. I understand that your hearts are broken at her loss and know that you are in my thoughts at this sad time .

Met Joan in 1975 when we lived in the same building. We were goods friends till I left the province a few years later. Any one knowing Joan realizes that it takes more than moving away to forget or be forgotten by Joan. She was like a sister.

I last spoke with Joan a few month’s ago and true to form she was more concerned with how everyone else was doing rather than talk about her own illness. Joan was a very special person with big heart and will surely be missed by all who knew her. Les, Andrew, Adrian, Ruby and John, may the Lord bless all of you during this time of grief, please accept our sincere condolences, Cousin Duane wife Glenda ,Cory and Sheila.

Joan was a wonderful person who made you feel like the most important person in the room when she spoke to you. I looked forward to her visits and her down to earth manner in her interactions with everyone. She showed genuine love and respect for her family and relatives. We are deeply sadden by her passing.
Our condolences to her family. Aunt Joyce Hill and family.
