John Bernard “Bernie” McIntyre Dominion It is with broken hearts that we the family of John Bernard “Bernie” McIntyre announce his passing on February 9, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a brief but courageous battle with COVID-19. Born and raised in Dominion, he was the son of the late Mary (McIntyre) and Art Kelly. Bernie lived with and was lovingly raised by his grandparents John and Isabelle McIntyre who he affectionately called Momma and Poppa. True to his roots, Bernie remained in the little town that he loved for his whole life, where he married his soulmate Carol (Stewart), and they raised their four children. The nicest man in the world, Bernie was always there for anyone who needed him, with a smile and kind word. Besides his family, Bernie found most of his joy in music, and he passed on his talents to his children and grandchildren. Whether it be listening to his favorites; or in his early years, playing drums in his band, he always made sure there was music. Some might say he was born with his foot tapping. The biggest Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan, Bernie never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite team. “This is the year!” he would say, referring to the Stanley Cup, he would jump out of his chair to celebrate every goal. Bernie worked for 30 years for Hostess Frito Lay, delivering chips to local stores, where he made many friends along the way. After his retirement in 2005, Bernie was free to do what he loved most, spend time with his family. Summer days by the pool, watching the grand kids play sports, or any celebration that came along, Bernie loved to be with his family. Nothing gave him more joy than to have his whole family around the table for a Turkey dinner he prepared. Besides his children, Bernie was blessed with five grandchildren who he adored and they him. He was so proud of each of them and never missed an opportunity to boast about their accomplishment. Benie is survived and will be eternally missed by his children Robbie (Yvonne), Adelle, Kelly (Nancy). His grandchildren Jarrott, Kenneth, Meghan, Nolan, and Marley. Also left to mourn his passing are his brothers; Blair (Wendy) Kelly and Kevin Kelly, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. And his special fur baby and constant companion Tiger. Besides his parents and grandparents, Bernie was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years Carol, his son and “buddy” Brian; brothers, Art, Daniel (Duper), Harvey, John ‘Son’ and sisters, Lena, Colista, Vangie, Margaret and Annie. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff at the cape Breton Regional Hospital. Especially Dr.’s Lata, Brake, Hebb, and McFarlane, as well as all the special nurses in the ICU, who took such exceptional care of Bernie and treated him like family.
