Obituary of Elizabeth Ann George

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ann George, age 78, on February 1st, 2022, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary site, with her son Jason by her side. Elizabeth was born in Middle Melford, NS and grew up in Halifax. She spent the last 47 years of her life living in Lower Sackville with her loving husband Richard (Rick) and in July 2021 they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Her friends usually referred to her as Liz, and most of her family lovingly referred to her as Butch or Butchie, a nickname that she has had since being a young girl. Elizabeth leaves behind her husband, Rick; of Lower Sackville; sons, Christopher (Nadia); of Atlanta, GA, and Jason (Paula); of Upper Tantallon, NS; her cherished grandsons, Andrew, Ethan, Rylan, and Nicholas; and her sisters, Marion, and Madeline. She will also be fondly remembered by her large extended family as well as many close friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Jean Matheson; her grandmother, (Mom) Elizabeth Somers; her sisters, Christine, and Verona; her aunts, Madeline, Molly, Helen, Ethel, Ora, Ida-Belle, Ada, Neta, Jane, and Beatrice; as well as her uncles, Bill, George, Edward, and Seymour. Elizabeth was a truly generous, kind, and caring person who would do anything for anyone without hesitation. She was a devoted and loving wife and an amazing mother to her two sons, whom she loved more than life itself. Nanny also loved spending time with her four grandsons who could do no wrong in her eyes. They were her pride and joy and without a doubt her face would light up every time she was with them. Liz worked for many years as a telecommunications operator at the IWK Health Centre and after retiring she spent a great deal of time caring for others while volunteering at The Sagewood nursing home, the Cobequid Health Centre, and at her second home St. Francis by the Lakes. She was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior and a dedicated member of the congregation at St Francis. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time for a phone call, message, visit, or check-in over the past few months. A special thank you to Linda & Robert, Georgie & Carol, and Geraldine, who were there whenever she, or the family, needed someone to chat with or to go out for coffee or lunch. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the Cobequid Health Centre and the QEII Emergency Department for their patience and care in her final days. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, an invitation only memorial service will be held at St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church under the direction of Reverend Mark Kingsbury, in Lower Sackville on Saturday, February 5th, 2022. Memorial donations in honor of Elizabeth can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or St. Francis by the Lakes.
