Cotter Aloysius Kelly, 68
Dominion
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cotter Aloysius Kelly on Monday, January 31, 2022, at his residence in Dominion, N.S. at the age of 68. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Cecelia (Harrietha) Kelly and the late (Wish) Aloysius Kelly.
Cotter became an Electrician through CB Regional Vocational School in Sydney, he did his electrical apprenticeship work with Lynk Electric Ltd., and became an employee of that company for several years. For a brief time, he worked at different Electrical Companies in Sydney.
Cotter was a diligent worker always providing for his family, impacting us with his tireless work ethic. He worked as an underground Electrician for DEVCO until they closed but was never idle. He continually put his family first and anyone else who needed a hand. He had a heart bigger than life and was happiest when helping others. Dad was our Mr. Fix-it, always going beyond to help his family and those around him. Cotter spent his retirement years doing his most-cherished work, small engine repair with his brother Kevin. He was well known for being dependable, hard-working, and able to fix about any type of machine. He took every challenge and obstacle with such ease and acceptance that it made everyone around him stronger.
Cotter got to enjoy the honor of being a grandfather and that is where he learned the true meaning of the word, pride; he loved to spend as much time as possible teaching all his grandchildren life lessons that would always be remembered. Poppy is adored and loved by each one of his grandchildren, Dakota, Bryanna, Jessica, Madison, William, and Mason.
Cotter is survived by his mother: Cecelia; mother of his children: Barbara Jean (DeCoste); daughters: Michelle Ann Kelly, Cynthia Kelly (Greg Metcalfe, grown to love like a son): a special young lady whom Cotter and Barbara thought of as a daughter, Vanessa (Wayne) Spencer; Sisters: Peggy (Francis) Bonnar, Patricia (Pat); Goddaughter Lynette Shepard, and several nieces, nephews.
Besides his father, Cotter was predeceased by his brother, Kevin Kelly; two daughters Sherrie Lee in Infancy, Angela Marie Kelly in 2017, and most recently his granddaughter Sheri Madison Paige Kelly in 2021.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Cotter will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 with Peggy (Tracey) MacKinnon officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
