Theresa Yates, 87 Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend Theresa Yates, 87, on January 15, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Theresa was the daughter of the late Mary (Totten) and James Doyle. A loving wife to her late husband, David William Yates. In her early years, mom was employed as a crosswalk guard for Saint Anthony's school, a job in which she loved. She enjoyed walking and going to her aerobics classes. In later years, Mom enjoyed sitting on the step during the summertime with a good cup of tea, and it was not a good cup of tea unless it was "gauze tea bags". She was always up for a game of cards at home to pass the time, she also looked forward to having her great granddaughters, Camryn, and Kinsley, over for sleepovers. Mom was an animal lover, and although she could no longer have any of her own, she made sure every stray cat in the neighbourhood did not go hungry. Mom faced a few setbacks with her health in the past year, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and shortly after that, had a fall. Despite her failing health, she still wanted to be independent. Mom was a kind, caring, loving soul, she never wanted to see anyone go without; if you went for a visit, she would always send you home with a bag. Known to many, she will be missed by all, specifically her family, for the love and devotion shown to us over the years. We are so grateful and will miss her so much. Mom is survived by her loving children: Brian, Derek, Brad, and Bev; grandchildren: Brittany (Jordan), Brandon, Cody (Mary), Lyndsey (Johnny); her precious great- grandchildren: Camryn, Kinsley, and Jordyn as well as several nieces and nephews. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, David (2014), sons Lorne, David Jr. (Cash), Allister; three sisters, and two brothers. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. A private service will take place at a later date. Words of comfort may be expressed to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.
