Obituary of Peter John Melkert Jr.

Age 68, of Halifax passed away January 7, 2022, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary site. Born in Halifax he was the son of the late Peter Melkert Sr., and Maria (Cafferata). Peter was a 4th class engineer although the work he enjoyed the most was in the film industry as a vehicle wrangler. He could often be found in his garage as he loved working on European cars - especially Audi’s. He was most known for diagnosing problems in vehicles and could be considered a “doctor of mechanics”. He enjoyed boating as well as working on boats. Well known for being a coffeeholic, Peter was never seen without his coffee travel mug, always sipping it from a straw. Survived by his wife, Victoria (Cookson) of 47 years; son, Sandy; daughter, Lisa (Tom) Arsenault; brothers, Dan (Therese), Ricky (Cindy), Deme (Krista); sister, Anita (Doug) Meade; 2 grandchildren, Quinn, and Thomas Arsenault; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Baby John (brother). No visitation or funeral due to Covid-19. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when Covid-19 restrictions allow.
