Thomas Joseph 'Joe Mac' McNamara, 75
Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of Thomas Joseph ‘Joe Mac’ McNamara, age 75, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on January 11, 2022.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Vincent McNamara and Rita (MacAdam) Gallant.
Joe was employed as a coal miner with Devco for many years before retiring. He enjoyed playing the guitar and an occasional drink with his family and friends and having a great laugh; he also loved old country music and particularly his Sunday afternoons with Dinky Cameron. Joe enjoyed the last nine years of being ‘Papa’ to his greatest gifts, his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his loving family, Joseph (Ashley), James (Amy) and Angela (Tom) Lewis; his five precious grandchildren, Melasia, Frasier, William, Christian and Avery, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and his best companion Talli (it was not often you would see one without the other).
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth ‘Liddy’ McNamara and son, Melburn McNamara.
Cremation has taken place. As per Joe’s request there will be no visitation or service. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit at the Glace Bay Hospital or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
A special thank you to the staff of the Glace Bay and Sydney Dialysis Units for all the care and compassion given to Joe Mac.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
