It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mom, nan, sister, and friend, Helen Cameron of Glace Bay at the age of 84. Helen passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side until the end.
Helen was born on February 20th, 1937 in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late John Dan and Cassie McDonald. Helen was a long time resident of Connaught Avenue in Glace Bay and a member of St. Anne’s Parish.
Helen worked at the Glace Bay Hotel for most of her working life, later she was employed at the Colliery Restaurant before retiring. Helen was a faithful, generous and kind-hearted lady and will be remembered for her unconditional love of her family, especially her grandchildren Taylor and Aaron, who were her pride and joy. She was very active in their lives. She loved a night out at the bingo hall or chase the ace, as well as her daily trips to Tim Hortons for tea with her friends. She enjoyed attending concerts at the Savoy with her friends.
Helen is survived by her son Aubrey (Brenda), Glace Bay, grandchildren Taylor Cameron (Taylor) and Aaron Cameron (Sydney); special grandchildren Annie Beth (Justin) Sampson and Daniel Oldford (Laura) all of Halifax; sister Minnie Livingstone, Glace Bay, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Weldon; brothers, Alex, Archie and Joe McDonald; sisters, Pat Callaghan, Mellie Nickelo and Jenny Bond.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Helen will be held Friday,December 10,2021 from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding all taking place at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay, (902-849-4199). A reception will follow in the reception area. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
We would like to thank all of her friends and second family at Wentworth Court in Harbourstone Sydney, as well as the physicians and staff of unit 3B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Savoy Theatre Society, The Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
