Obituary of Robert Thomas Gray

Of Halifax, born on June 13, 1937, raised by his loving grandparents Sgt. Ambrose Gray and Kate Delaney, and son of the late Gertrude and step father Charles Wilson, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the QEII Health Sciences Centre after a brave fight with Parkinson's Disease. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Pauline (nee Edwards) of 61 years; and sons, Michael in Toronto, Patrick (Lisa) and Mark of Halifax; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Ben, and Hayley; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenny (Brenda), Bernie (Shirley- dec), and Leonard (Gail); and sisters, Patsy (Ralph- dec), Cindy (Richard) and Charlene (Clyde). He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Carmelita (Jack), Corrine (Bill), Diane, and Doug (Greta); as well as his loving parent-in laws, James and Dolly Edwards; and their children, Jack (Onnie), Fred (Freda), Jim (Shirley- dec), and Diane (Don- dec). Bob spent his career as a proud employee of Central Mortgage and Housing, Sears and the Chronicle Herald where he retired as the Manager of Classified Advertising. Bob gained the respect and admiration of his Herald colleagues and staff. His sons have very fond memories of their Saturday morning trips to dad's office where he proudly showed off the newspaper industry. Bob took great pride in his sons' careers, education, and watching their baseball and hockey games. This pride and interest continued with his grandchildren's activities and sports. Bob also loved being at his cottage in Lewis Lake, Mount Uniacke with friends and family sitting by the fire watching the stars with a beer or two. Bob enjoyed a great game of golf with family and friends. Bob and wife Pauline also truly enjoyed travelling with family and best friends Tommy and Margie McDonald, creating many lifetime memories, especially at the Mountain Gap Inn in Digby. Dad was also an avid sports fan, always cheering for the Toronto Maple Leaf's and Blue Jays. Bob also spent many hours at the Centennial Arena, ball diamonds, and soccer pitches watching his sons and grandchildren's games where he cherished the many friendships and memories. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the QEII Emergency and 3B Departments who cared for Bob in his final days. The family also is so very grateful for the caring support and medical attention provided by Dr. Craig St. Peters. We are also so appreciative of Bob's god daughter Joanne and her husband Tony for all the love and care they have provided our parents, especially the last few years' of our fathers' life. Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists (tjtracey.com/). Dad's request was there be no visitation. The funeral service, to be conducted by Fr. Nathanael DesRoches, FoH, is on Tuesday November 9, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata Parish (motherteresaparish.com/) in Halifax at 6032 Normandy Drive. Nova Scotia public health protocols will be in place including mandatory masking and proof of vaccination. In lieu of flowers, our family would appreciate memorial donations to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (dmrf.ca) or a charity of your choice in Bob's name. Bob will always be in the hearts and minds of his wife as a devoted husband and sons as a dedicated father and amazing role model. Our family is blessed with so many wonderful memories of a lifetime thanks to Robert Thomas Gray. He will be so dearly missed and loved forever by his family and friends.
