Darrell Joseph “Willie” Popwell Mira Gut It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Willie Popwell, age 73, at the QE11 Hospital, Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Maurice and Vivian Popwell. Willie was employed with DEVCO until his retirement. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 005, Donkin. He loved to fish, hunt and work on cars in his beloved Mira. He was the family handyman and even though he complained, he loved every minute of it. He loved his nieces and nephews very much. He will be missed by best friends, Matt, Adrian, Elmer, Earl “Turkey”, Allan, Dannie and Arnold. Willie is survived by his two sons, Shayne and Troy (Sheri), daughter, Krista (Jimmy); loving grandchildren, Noah, Haley and Zack Popwell; brothers, Craig (Pat) and Robert (Myrna); sisters, Karen ‘Che Che’ McPhee, Doreen (Rudy) McDougall,, Lucy (John D) Gregor. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Frank McPhee Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. all taking place at T.J.Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch of your choice.
