John Gordon Gouthro Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we, the family of John Gordon ‘Gordie’ Gouthro, age 77, announce his sudden passing on October 14th, 2021. Raised in Gardiner Mines, he was the son of the late John Joe and Elizabeth Gouthro. He married our mother, the love of his life Rosalie, and in 2017 they celebrated 50 years together. They lived and raised four children together in Bridgeport. He worked 35 years as a coal miner with DEVCO. Gordie was an active member of Branch 78 Legion, Dominion, where he served as president for several years. Gordie enjoyed playing darts, cards and bowling but most of all he enjoyed spending time with friends and family at their bungalow in Loch Lomand. There he would sing and play guitar with his friends Sharon and George, Reg and Diane and many others, till the wee hours of the morn. Gordie is survived by daughters Ramona (Freddie), Consuello (Jamie); son, Elliott (Candace) and special daughter-in-law Kim Gouthro (Donnie); Shellie Collins, who he loved like daughters. Grandchildren Adrian, who was like a son to him, as well as, Sidney, Cody, Kendra, Sarah, Victoria, Kirklind, Lincoln, Maddox and Lily Rose, as well as six great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Dougie, Irene; sisters Paula Marie, Linda, Donna and Claire. Besides his parents, John Joe and Lib, he was predeceased by son Kenneth Daniel and in infancy his son Adrian Dwayne; his siblings Russell, Betty, Greg, Kenny and Paul. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 2-3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Donations in Gordie’s name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Covid-19 restrictions, masks are mandatory. The public are asked to provide proof of vaccine before entering the building.
