Frances Rose McKenzie, 90
Glace Bay
Frances Rose McKenzie, 90, of Glace Bay passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Zucek) Lasouski.
Mom worked for many years in the hospitality industry as owner/operator of Fran’s Restaurant, and is especially known for her catering operation at the Glace Bay Heavy Water Plant. Later she was employed by the Bay, Diabetes Association and as a telemarketer. She enjoyed being around and helping people and recently became involved in the Town Hall Museum, speaking about the Polish Community, and early life in Glace Bay. Mom also appreciated baking and cooking for her family and friends.
Frances is survived by one son: Fabian (Jennifer); daughters: Jessie, Adrienne (late Jim Brown), Frances (Wallace) and Joanne (Glenn); brothers: Richard and Matthew (Brother Joseph), and sister Rose.
Frances was the loving grandmother to many grandchildren: Sean, Dawn, Danielle, Jim, Keith, Rick, Griffyn, Cody, Graidy, Ally, Abby, Avery, and Aaron; great-grandchildren: Morgyn, Taylor, Gabrielle, Nathaniel, Caleb, Kiera, Jensen, Kyra, Carsen, and Kaylee.
Besides her parents, Frances was predeceased by first husband Fabian McKenzie, and second husband Fabian Curry; son John James at birth; daughter Theresa at birth; sisters; Mary, Julie, and Victoria; brothers; John and Bronnie.

Visitation for the late Frances McKenzie will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m., and Friday, October 8, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St. Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. A funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Church on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 12 p.m., with Fr. Norman McPhee presiding. Interment to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery.
