Obituary of Janet Thomasena Bearnes

Janet Thomasena Bearnes (Walsh), 89 Dominion It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Janet Thomasena Bearnes (Walsh) age 89, passed away peacefully on Sept. 21, 2021, at New Waterford Heights Long Term Care Facility surrounded by her family. Born in Sydney, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Kathleen Walsh (James). Mom was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and St. Vincent de Paul Society, Bridgeport. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed the company of her fellow teammates. Mom enjoyed baking for family and friends and was known for her famous pork pies. Both mom and dad enjoyed their Saturday night Tarbish games with longtime friends, Jim, and Shirley Fogarty. Mom also enjoyed attending church on Saturdays with her friend, Sadie MacNeil. Mom will be greatly missed by her family; daughter: Sharon (Wayne) MacDonald, Dominion; son’s: John “Jack” (Mary), Calgary, Bruce (Annabeth), Glace Bay, Kevin (Marguerite), Halifax, Gary, Dominion, Donald, Calgary; her 14 cherished grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with whom she forever enjoyed spending countless hours surrounded by their loving company and listening to their latest adventures and sharing her own as well. Janet is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Sadie Walsh, and Bessie Oakley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her loving husband, John “Sonny;” daughter, Carol Ann; son, Glenn, and granddaughter, Carol Ann. The family would like to thank the VON and Homecare staff, as well as the staff of both the Glace Bay Hospital and New Waterford Heights Long Term Care facility for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please show an act of kindness to someone in need. Donations may be made to the Heart and Lung Association. In honoring mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau presiding. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
