Lorna Jean MacDougall Glace Bay It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the passing of Lorna MacDougall, 82 at the Glace Bay General Hospital September 17th 2021. Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of Alex and Marguerite (McNeil) Mac Dougall. Lorna will be remembered for many things but mostly for her bravery in the face of a debilitating fight with cancer. Lorna was the fourth daughter of a family of seven she was a teacher by profession and for 15 years of her life she was a member of the Sisters of Charity Halifax Nova Scotia from 1959 until 1974. As a sister she spent time teaching in Halifax and a number of years in British Columbia. Later Lorna realized her calling was not as a Sister of Charity so in 1974 Lorna left the Congregation but continued her teaching in Nova Scotia in the areas of Fall River and Lower Sackville for a number of years. Upon her retirement she returned to Glace Bay to attend to her aging parents which allowed them to remain at home until their passing. Lorna, will always be remembered for her realistic and logical outlook on life, her kindness, her deep love and care of family, her generosity and her loyalty to them and her friends. She loved to laugh, had a keen sense of humor and was often the instigator of fun and teasing. She loved her extended family and was especially good to her nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all but there is peace in knowing her sufferings are over and we will all one day be reunited with her. Lorna is survived by her sisters Marguerite ‘Deedee’ (MacDougall) Knisely, Sister Deanna MacDougall SC and Laraine(MacDougall) Ward. Several nieces and nephews and her step son Scott Simms (Melissa) of Glace Bay. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Alex and Marguerite MacDougall; brother, Arthur MacDougall; sisters Carol (MacDougall) Belt, Suzanne MacDougall (Coffin); as well as Joyce MacDonald her longtime friend and partner. Lorna, we love you and will miss you tremendously but we know you are at peace and in that we find comfort. Rest well our DEAR LOVED ONE until we meet again. Cremation has taken place. As per Lorna’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A private burial will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Services Reserve St. Glace Bay.
