Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley Inez Bond-McNeil, With broken hearts we say goodbye to our beautiful mother, Shirley (McComber) Bond-McNeil, age 85, on Sunday June 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Ma was born in Glace Bay, spending her early years in Table Head. She married her first love, our dad Allen Bond, in 1952 and together they raised their four children who meant the world to both of them. Ma and Da enjoyed every summer with family at their bungalow in Northside East Bay. For several years she worked at Shore’s Food Fair in New Aberdeen. Ma always loved doing arts and crafts and especially ceramics, opening “Shirley’s Ceramics” in 1979. When our father became ill, our mother then devoted her time to caring for our dad until his passing in July 1986. In 1989, ma was fortunate enough to meet another special man, Peter, who brought joy back into her life, Ma and Peter spent summers at their bungalow in Iona and loved going for drives together, especially their frequent trips to the casino. In 2011, after Peter’s passing, ma started her own journey with dementia. Our loving mother was unknowingly losing some special memories and moments that she once held so dear to her heart. We hope that she knew we were all on that journey with her and we will forever keep those special memories of her in our hearts. In 2013 Ma entered R.C. MacGillivray Guest Home, where she gained an extended and loving family. We cannot express the compassion and care that was given to our Mom, not only by the nursing staff, but also the cleaners, recreation and kitchen staff. You were all family to us and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Judy Bond Snow, DorisLynn (Greg) McCarthy, and Donna (Alan) MacDonald; her grandchildren, Shaun, Tracey, Amy, Ricky, Brittany, Jeffrey, and Nathan; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Doreen McNeil; brother, Roy (Bookie) McComber. Besides her parents, Cecil and May McComber, she was predeceased by her husbands, Allie Bond and Peter McNeil, sons, Stanley and in infancy Darren Michael; brothers, Danny and Bobby. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, June 28, 2018 at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS 902-849-4199 Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. “all that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com
