Obituary of Leona Janette Deal

Please share a memory of Leona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Leona Janette Deal (Shubley) on Thursday, September 16, 202.1 As Leona wished, she was at home surrounded by her family who loved her and admired her strength as her angels peacefully guided her home to be with Jesus and her loved ones. Leona is now reunited with her loving mother Bertha, father Arthur, sisters Marie and Mildred, husband Gordon (Dick) and her son Leonard (Lenny). She is survived by sisters Shirley Shubley and Jean MacDonald. Leona was a dedicated mother who loved and cherished all her children: her sons Barry (Karen), Gordon (Judy), Bernard (Jo-Anne) and her only daughter Sharon Adshade. She took pride in and loved her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Leona was born on May 11, 1930 and raised in Terence Bay, NS. She was a very hard working and caring person. Along with being a dedicated wife and mother she worked at Dalhousie University for many years and loved her job. Her favorite pastime was sitting on the swing with Bernard watching the birds as they fed from her many birdfeeders. She also enjoyed reading, doing work puzzles, listening to her favourite country oldies, sing along with family and showing off her unique dance moves. Throughout the years Leona looked forward to preparing Sunday dinners for family and friends. The family would like to thank Bernard and Jo-Anne for their compassion and dignity with Leona’s final wishes and extended thank you to Karen, Paula and Krista. “Your presence we miss, your memories we treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never” We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the VON nurses who cared for her daily. A very special thank you to Cindy Bell, Palliative Care Nurse for her compassionate care and support during this difficult time. In honour of Leona’s wishes a private family service will be held. Donations can be made in Leona’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)
