Florence Isabell Barrett Glace Bay, 93 It is with great sadness and love that we the family of Florence Isabell (MacDonald) Barrett announce her peaceful passing on May 22nd, 2021 at the age of 93 at Taigh Na Mara, where she has been a resident the past two years. Florence is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, William A. Barrett ‘Bill’, whom she often referred to as, “my Billy”; she adored and loved him with all her heart and they have been an example of true love to anyone who crossed their paths over the years. Born in Broughton on April 3rd, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Margaret and Malcolm John MacDonald. Florence was a dedicated wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Florence was heavily involved in the Warden United Church for many years and later a member of Knox United Church in her later years which she enjoyed very much. Florence dedicated her life to her family as a devoted wife and mother to her four children and many grandchildren; she took great pride in these roles. Florence was an exemplary homemaker who took great pride in maintaining a meticulous home, cooking and baking for those she loved. Florence leaves behind her 3 daughters; Elaine MacNeil (Gerry), Jeanice Hunter (Wade) and Wilma Boone (Dennis) who she resided with for 27 years prior to her admission to Taigh Na Mara. Florence’s daughter, Wilma, devoted many years to keeping her safe, loved and at home; she made every effort to do this for as long as she possibly could. Often referred to as “Ninny” or “Ma” by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Florence is survived by 11 grandchildren; Aaron MacNeil (Heather), Matthew MacNeil, Jaret MacNeil (Hannah), Angela Humber (Byron), Alyssa Hunter (Kate), Travis Barrett (Carly), Devin Barrett, Nicholas Boone (Bhreagh), Nathan Boone (Ivy), Breagh Niesten (Chris) and Adria Boone. Proud great grandmother to 12 great grandchildren; Calvin, Tessalynn, Logan and Kiara MacNeil, Khloe, Kayla, Kamdyn and Kenza Humber, Makaila and Dannilynn Barrett, Jaxon Boone and Van Niesten and one great great grandchild Lukas MacNeil. Florence is survived by her sisters Joyce James and Bernice Gale, sisters-in-law Mae Barrett, Verda MacKenzie, Shirley Barrett and Bess Barrett, brothers-in-law Ken Barrett and Donald Barrett. Also survived by special friends Francis Campbell and Elsie Neary and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her son Malcolm John Barrett and his wife Debbi Barrett, her sisters and their spouses; Mary Kerr (Johnny), Chris Lynk (Art) and Willena Pyke, and her brother Ronald MacDonald and his wife Dolly. Also predeceased by her brothers-in-law and spouses; Jack MacKenzie, Maxwell Barrett (Lilly), Joseph Barrett (Ethel), James Barrett (Becky), Abe Barrett, Bernie James, Jimmy Gale and George Barrett as well as her sisters-in-law and spouses Sarah Roy (Edmond), Mary MacDougall (Charlie) and Linda Barrett. Special thanks to anyone who helped in any way to keep Florence home for as long as we were able; this meant so much to her and her family. Special thanks to anyone involved in Florence’s care at Taigh Na Mara. Special thank you to Dr. Cadegan and Brenda and also to Dr. MacLean at Taigh Na Mara.
