Obituary of Dolores Riggs

Dolores Riggs Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my mother Dolores Riggs, age 92, at the Waterford Heights, New Waterford, on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ (MacNeil) and Joe MacKenzie. She and Dad were HAM Radio operators VE1 CS and VE1 LO. She enjoyed ski doo’s, riding motorcycles and trisports. Mom enjoyed many summers at their bungalow in Benacadie Pond. Her granddaughter Krystal was the apple of her eye, she was a dedicated grandmother, attending all of the Celtic concerts, basketball and rugby games. Mom and dad were consumed and love basketball. Mom played the sport in her younger years, playing for St. Anne’s. Mom and dad followed Colette’s years playing at St. Mike’s, UCCB and later for the Women’s Senior League. Mom loved her family dearly; she would often say to Donald, ‘Oh dear Donald, I don’t know what’s coming next?’ Mom was ready for anything. Mom is survived by her only daughter, Colette Poirier, son-in-law, Donald Poirier, mom idolized him; granddaughter, Krystal MacKenzie Burte; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Bessie and Joe, she was predeceased by her sister Marion MacKenzie; brothers, Jimmy, Gordon and Stanley. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service.
