Mary O’Handley Glace Bay With heartfelt sorrow we the family of Mary (McDonald) O’Handley announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother/grandmother/great grandmother surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Mary age 94 was the daughter of Catherine ‘Kit’ & Nicholas McDonald. As our matriarch she spent many hours saying the Rosary and novenas for her loved ones. Now we find great peace in knowing she is now our guardian angel. Ma’s true passions in life were her family and strong faith. A pot of tea and her favorite sweets welcomed all to her loving home. Despite running a busy household of eight children, so many others benefited from Ma’s nurturing and loving way. Her hobbies included playing cards with her close friends, bowling, and watching curling, cooking and telling jokes and pulling many pranks along the way. Christmas gatherings and the many fun times at the bungalow in Gillis’ Lake will always hold a special place in our hearts. Ma is survived by her seven children, Gwen(Dougie) Aucoin, Donna Currie, Jen(Laurie) Lloyd, Marion(Dennis) Chafe, Elaine O’Handley, Sons Michael, Allan(Thelma), Son in law Carey Boozan, and friend Paul Maclean who she considered family, Brothers in law, Bob Fisher and Al Lyszczasz. Nanny leaves behind 17 wonderful grandchildren whom she adored. Many special visits to “Blueberry Nanny’s” will also be greatly missed by 19 great grandchildren. Ma is predeceased by the love of her life Jimmy O’Handley; loving daughter Valerie Boozan; sisters Correen, Colleen, Linda and Lois. The family would like to thank the 911 dispatcher, first responders, Dr. MacVicar, the nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Emergency department, and family physician Dr. James MacLean. Cremation has taken place and due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a private family service. The gates of Heaven have opened for me, In the Lord’s arms is where I want to be, Cry for me if you must, But then smile for me and live your life, Here I am happy, peaceful and free. I’ll always be with you and you always with me, I leave with your memories to share with each other, Memories of laughter and some of pain, But most of all memories, Memories filled with love from me, your mother, your friend and now, your Guardian Angel “Family is less alone, and Loved”
