Gordie was born in West Arichat, Cape Breton and was predeceased by his father Amedee Joseph Covin, mother, Patricia (Linden) Morrison, father-in-law, John (Jack) Cusack, mother-in-law Joan Eileen (Fisher) Cusack and step grandmother Laura Linden. Gordie worked for 28 years as a heavy equipment operator with Nova Scotia Power in Lingan while volunteering as a Firefighter for 22 years and becoming Fire Chief with the Grand Lake Rd Fire Dept. He loved building and racing cars and trucks with his son. He was an avid fisherman and hunter having spent many days at his best friend Mel’s cabin in Mabou. People will remember him for his love of music, playing the spoons, guitar, electric organ, drums and many more instruments. He was a shy and quiet man that would do anything for anyone but never expect anything in return. He looked forward to spending weekends at his beloved bungalow that he built in Baddeck, laughing, dancing and cooking a big breakfast for his family and friends. This was his happy place. Gordie is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 45 years, Linda (Cusack) Covin, children, Gordon (Stephanie) Covin, Jennifer (Justin) Sparks, Janice (Matt) Johnson, beloved grandchildren, Rylen, Nathan, Maria, Skylar, Novaleigh, and special cousins Sylvia (Cusack) Linden, Ronnie Linden and Harold Linden. He had many extended brothers and sisters in the Cusack family. Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the Nurses and Doctors at the Dialysis Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, his family physician, Dr. Steven MacDougall and the Emergency Department Dr. Ev Fuller and team. Also, a special thank you to his many friends and extended family for their love and support through this difficult time. “16 candles in my heart will glow forever and ever for I love you so”
