Glace Bay – Age 60
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Jackie Burchell on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Howard and Rita (Allison) Burchell.
Jackie was employed at Centre 200 and the New Miners Form until his illness. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working with all the staff of both places.
Jackie was a member of the Caledonia Club Men’s Dart League as well as the bartender. Dad enjoyed playing baseball and shooting darts. He loved watching the grandkids play hockey at the rink. Poppy enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jackie is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Diane (MacDonald); his sons, Kyle (Alicia), T.J. (Samantha), Ryan (Meaghan), Roddie (Michelle); Rene, who he loved like his own; grandsons, Nathan, Mark, Lachlan, Camden, Shaw, Bryson, Makail and Brayden; his granddaughters, Hailey and Lilah. He is also survived by his siblings, Paddy (Linda), Howard (Judy), Tommy (Rene), Jimmy, Alex (Trish), Robert (Donna) and Marie (Jimmy), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Howard and Rita, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Ernie and Annie Burchell and John and Maria Allison; two brothers, Allie and Augustus in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. As per Jackie’s wishes there will be no visitation or services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
Donations may be made to the Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the 3rd Floor of the Glace Bay Hospital, the Palliative Care Unit and the Cancer Center for all the care and compassion given to Jackie. Thank you to the staff of both Center 200 and the Glace Bay Miners Forum for all that you did for Jack. Thank you to all of our family and friends who were always there for us. We greatly appreciated it.
