Obituary of Mary Louise Martin
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 89, passed away Sunday August 15 2021 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of James and Florence Adams.
Mary is most famous for her piecrust, argyle socks and excellent secretarial skills. Her greatest joy was the love she had for her husband "Wee" and her grandchildren Keaton and Ellie O'Brien. For many years she was secretary in the main office of J.L. Ilsley High School and attended many reunions with faculty over the years. She was an avid bridge player, knitter and crossword puzzler. Our family spent many happy summers at our cottage on Big Mush-a-Mush where Mary would throw bridge tournaments and gather as many family and friends as could be squeezed in. Mary withstood a number of tragedies in her life, more than most, and soldiered on with courage and grace. We are thankful that her illness was brief and she is at peace now.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Lou and Susan, son Mark (estranged), grandchildren Keaton and Ellie O'Brien, her brother Donald and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by husband Frank "Wee", son Christopher, sisters Nova, Marion, Betty, and brothers James and Thomas.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 20 at St Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Road, masks required. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 33 Old Sackville Rd, Lower Sackville following the mass. There will be a Celebration of Life for Mary on Saturday, September 25, venue TBD.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff at Caritas Residence at Mount St. Vincent, the ladies and sisters who loved Mary, and particularly nurses Nick, Danielle, Jessica and Kim.
