James “Jimmy” Simms, 68 Glace Bay It is with broken hearts that we the family of Jimmy Simms, announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Family meant more to Dad than life itself, and he cherished each moment spent with them. Dad was born in Glace Bay on January 1, 1953 and was the son of the late John and Velitta (Rideout) Simms. In Dad’s earlier years he played baseball and was known as one of the best pitchers around. Dad enjoyed going deer hunting, duck shooting, and ice fishing; and he also enjoyed Lobster Fishing with his buddies. He loved to spend his days down by the shore with his family reeling in the fish. Dad was known for his love of listening to Newfoundland music with his very special friend Rose Anne Reid. Jimmy worked at General Instruments at a young age, and that is where he met the love of his life and best friend, his wife, Maureen. Later in life, Dad was employed with Devco, until his retirement. Jimmy is survived by the love of his life, best friend, and wife of 47 years, Maureen (Peckham) Simms; his children, Laurie (Danny), Sherry (Chris) and Jimmy: grandchildren, Torre (Poppy’s little girl), Dawson (Poppy’s baseball Buddy), Jimmy and Bohdy (Poppy’s little boys), whom he was so proud of and deeply cherished; he also leaves behind his beloved four legged companion, his dog Jake, who will miss dad tremendously. Dad will be missed deeply by his siblings, Jack (Helen), Gord (Linda), Brenda (Bill) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as his in laws, the Peckham family, whom he loved so much. Jimmy also had a large circle of friends that held a special place in his Big Heart; his friends from the Glace Bay Pensioners Hall; Jimmy’s fishermen buddies, and his lifelong best friend Jerry Wadman. Besides his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his sister, Thelma, and brother Art, whom Jimmy missed and loved every day. As per dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late James “Jimmy” Simms, will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 12-2 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m., with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding at T.J.
