James “Jim” Snow, 80
Donkin
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of James “Jim” Snow, on Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Glace Bay General Hospital, with his family at his side. Born in Glace Bay, Jim was the son of the late Annie Harriet (Clements) and James Sutherland Wood Snow.
Jim started his career in the Royal Canadian Navy and served 5 years (1958-1963) aboard HMC Ships, Columbia, Koottenay and Crusader. He worked Construction,and at the Heavy Water Plant as Paymaster. Jim spent the last 25 years before he retired working with Revenue Canada as an Auditor.
He was a Lifetime Member and Treasurer of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 05, Donkin. Jim was a volunteer, and the President of the Navy League of Canada Cape Breton Branch, and in 1981, he helped to establish the first Sea Cadet Corps in Donkin. After Jim’s retirement in 1999, he loved to spend his days fishing out on the Mira with his best friend, James Edwards.
Jim is survived by his wife Irene Snow of 59 years; Son, Breton (Ann) Snow; two daughters, Michele (Derek) Morford, and Paula (Paul) McIntyre; three brothers, Sheldon, Art (Lorraine), and Ken; sister, Ellen (Charles, deceased) MacLeod.
Also left to mourn Jim are his 9 grandchildren: Jennifer (Joey), Daniel, Kyle, Kristy, Alexandra, Ryan, Brody, Tanner, and Jansen, as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Jim and Edith Brabazon, his daughter in infancy; brother, Weldon in infancy; sister-in-law, Johna and, brother-in-law, Charles.
Special thank you to Dr. Sampson and the staff on the third floor of the Glace Bay General Hospital for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glace Bay Food Bank or Canadian Cancer Foundation.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 a.m., at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.
