Lillian (Bubby) Frances O’Handley (nee Smith),
Glace Bay
It is with our greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lillian “Bubby” Frances O’Handley (nee Smith) on Monday, June 28th, 2021, at home in Table Head. Born in Glace Bay, Bubby was the daughter of the late Wilson and Lillian Smith. A Table Header for life, it was the love for her community that eventually led she and her husband Tom to settle down and raise their family along the shores of Table head.
She is survived by her children Tom (Heather) and daughter Jennifer, and fur son Jersey. Sisters: Betty (Peter), Dorothy (John), Mary (Greg), Sheila (Glenn), and special “chosen” sister Gail (Jim); Brothers, John “Dewey” (Marie), Jim (Jayney), Robert (Dean) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Tom, sisters Susie Campbell, Violet “Sissy” Strong and Brother Wilson Smith Jr.
The theme of Bubby’s life was unconditional love. She had a level of compassion for everyone that would have rivalled that of Mother Theresa. Bubby saw the good in everyone and had an extra level of love for children and animals. Her children were the lights of her life and everyone knew all about “her boy” and “her girl”.
She lived her life with a family and community minded focus and had a home that was the heart of her Table Head community. She gave kisses with reckless abandon, hugs that would heal your soul and she threw out as many “I love you’s” in the run of a day that she possibly could. If the sun quit shining, Bubby’s heart would have thrown off enough warmth and love to heat this world tenfold.
Our lives feel a whole lot heavier without her in them and therefore we, as her family wish that everyone could pass on a little spark of Bubby to others around them; more I love you’s, more compassion, and more healing hugs.
We hope your reunions with the ones who went before you are as sweet as you! We can already see you dancing with Da.
A Celebration of Bubby’s Life will be held, Friday, July 2nd at 2 p.m., at T.J. Tracey’s Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St. Glace Bay, 902-849-4199, with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Immaculate Conception Church, Dominion.
