It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Charles Joseph ‘Charlie’ Taverne, on Friday May 14, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital, at the age of 80.

Born and raised in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Louie ad Cecil Taverne.

Charlie was employed as a mechanic. He was a high rigger and stack climber. He enjoyed stock car racing, working in the garage where he loved fixing his cars and chatting with the guys.

Charlie is survived by his two loving sons, Charlie Taverne (Nona Lee Lawrence) and James Taverne; grandchildren, Rene McManus (Kirk Muise), Michael Gillis and step grandchildren, Samantha Chiasson and Rebecca Chiasson; great granddaughter, Alice Muise and step great grandson Caspian MacKinnon-Chiasson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Louie and Cecil, Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Ann; brothers, Gus Taverne (Donna) and Lou Taverne; sisters, Cecil Koziel and Victoria (Alex) Kibyuk.

Cremation has taken place. Due to Public Health Restrictions, a Celebration of Life for Charlie will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers,donations may be made in memory of Charlie to the Cape Breton Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
