It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Veronica Geraldine 'Deane' Power, announce her passing on Friday April 9, 2021. Ma was born in Alder Point on July 10,1928 to the late Raymond and Ella (Bonnar) O'Toole.
She was a very special lady who loved her family and church. She had many friends who will miss her at club and cards. A very social person, she loved the company of friends, family and strangers. Her face would always light up when anyone would come to visit her.
Ma spent most of her life in Glace Bay with husband Brudy raising ten children. A sweet and pleasant lady, she was always open for a good joke or gesture. She loved her children and grandchildren, especially Susan, who had special needs. She will be deeply missed by sons Terry (Sandra), Glenn (Raylene),Eric; daughters Judy (Edmund), Lynn Nugent (George), Rhonda Kelly (Dennis), Annette, Raylene (Allan) and daughter-in-law Joanie Power; 18 grandchildren, Laura, Emily, Troy, Tracy, Carla, Alyson, Ryan, Jeff, Jennifer, Shawn, Jason, Michael, Jonathan , Chris, Liam, Jena-Leigh, Katie and Lexie; 19 great grandchildren , Jonathan, Braydon, Madison, Taryn, Mark, Bryce, Gabe, Lauren, Lucas, Aleigh , Brooke-Lynn, Julie-Anna, Nora-Rae, Kera, Carter, Clark, Finnigan, Breton and Owen and 3 great great grandchildren River, Kinsley and Kendall. She is also survived by sisters Florence MacNeil, Shirley MacQuarrie(Clyde), sisters-in-law Anne Wall and Marjorie O'Toole and brother-in-law Barry MacIntyre as well as several nieces and nephews.
Deane was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Allison Joseph 'Brudy' Power, son Paul, daughter Susan, sister Lenore MacIntyre and brothers Francie, Aussie, Father Ray and Bobby O'Toole. Also, she was predeceased by brothers-in-law Earl MacNeil, Casey Power and sister-in-law Mary Sears.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at T.J. Tracey's Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St. Glace Bay.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday April 15, 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Seaview St. Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Burial will take place at a later date.
A special thank you to Dr. Worth, nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care and New Waterford Home Care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care or a charity of one’s choice.
