Mary (Lawrence) Cathcart Glace Bay With broken hearts, Robyn, Shirley and I regretfully announce the sudden passing from her earthly life of our beautiful, kind and gentle mother, sister and wife, Mary on Monday, July 9, 2018. Born in Glace Bay on April 18, 1945, she was the fifth and youngest daughter of the late Freeman Lawrence and Catherine MacAdam. Mary’s career as an elementary school teacher was one she loved and excelled at. The affection she showed to her students was returned ten-fold. Encountering them later in life, she enjoyed catching up on their lives, and they recalled the days in her class with fondness and kind praise. Except for her final year at St. Anne’s, Mary’s entire teaching career was at St. Anthony’s School, Passchendaele. Aside from her parents, Mary was pre-deceased by sisters, Mary Victoria in infancy, Mary Patricia in childhood and Rose. She was also pre-deceased by brothers-in-law, Eric Cathcart and Harvey McCormick. She is survived by Bruce, her husband of forty-six years; their beloved son, Robyn, and sister, Shirley (Edward) Chisholm. Also mourning her passing are mother-in-law, Eva Cathcart; in-laws, Shelley (Noel) Cronin, Allan (Judy Conn) Cathcart, Erna (Keith) Ferguson, Norma (Mark) Chiasson, Aubrey (Robyn) Cathcart; sister-in-law, Heather Cathcart; 17 nieces and nephews; 19 grandnieces and nephews; three god-children and special friends, Bernadine Brufatto and Helen Jenkins. The family would like to thank the dedicated first responders and the ER and ICU staffs at the Regional Hospital. We will be forever grateful for their valiant and compassionate endeavours to keep Mary with us. Visitation will take place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. on Thursday July 12, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Anne’s Church, Main St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding. Please wear bright colors. Family flowers only.
