It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Peter ‘Josh’ Hynes, age 84, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Peter and Eva (MacMillan) Hynes.
Josh was employed with the Coal Mines for 25 years until his retirement. He enjoyed darts, fishing and his summers in Loch Lomond, Josh loved a good hockey game and he routed for the Montreal Canadiens. His greatest love was his family and spending time with them.
Peter is survived by his son Richard, his daughter-in-law, Cheryl whom he resided with the past 12 years; two daughters, Debbie (Phonse) and Linda; his loving grandchildren-Samantha, Jocelyn, Leah, Scotia, Kelly, Jennifer, Emily, Phonse, Jessica, and Charles; his precious great grandchildren-Gage, Hayley, Kelsey, Colby, Riley, Oliver, Robert, Andrew and Jada; Poppy’s chosen grandchildren - Kelsey, Parker, Ella and Caydance. He is also survived by his brothers, Greg (Judy), Sydney, Terry (Cindy), Louisbourg; sister, Cathy (Pat), Glace Bay as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Esther (Bernasky) Hynes, daughter, Sandra; son David; granddaughter Courtney; great grandson, CJ; sister, Audrey Elizabeth in infancy; brother,Richard.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 26,2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199); with a funeral mass to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial will take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery at a later date. Due to COVID- 19 regulations seats are limited. Social distancing and masks are mandatory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care at the CBRH, Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of choice.
