Obituary of Mary Ellen Currie

Mary Ellen Currie Dominion It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our mother, Mary Ellen Currie, age 83, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Sarah Ann (MacDonald) MacKenzie. Mary Ellen was employed as a CNA with the Community Hospital until her retirement. She was in the CWL at St. Eugene’s Parish and was a member of the choir. Mary Ellen enjoyed bingo, watching TV, Blue Bloods being her favorite; she was a true fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. She enjoyed going on shopping trips with her friend Ursula. Mary Ellen is survived by her two loving daughters, Mary Jo (Michael) MacKeigan and Rosalind (Sheldon) O’Brien; her pride and joy, her precious granddaughter Keira Currie (Sofia); sister, Germaine Butts as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; sisters Rose Eva, Rosalind and Anita; brothers, Wilburn and Edward John. Visitation will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Burial to take place at a later date. Due to Covid – 19 Restrictions, seats are limited. Social distancing and masks are mandatory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. A special thank you to the staff on 4C and Palliative Care Unit for all your care and compassion given to our mom.
