Gloria “Jean” (Vaters) MacIntosh, age 76 of Glace Bay lost her brief but courageous battle with cancer on February 27, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital An Cala Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Cole) Vaters. Jean worked in retail at the Hudson Bay and as a Returning Officer during many elections. She devoted her life to her husband, 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Jean attended her grandchildren’s hockey, soccer and basketball games faithfully and was their #1 Fan. She also loved watching the Blue jays and Toronto Raptors on TV. Her favorite past time was playing BINGO with “the girls” or simply just taking care of everyone.
Survived by her son Wilfred MacIntosh; daughters, Janet (Tony) Anthony and Mary Lynn (Lowell) MacLeod. Grandchildren Garrett (Michelle), Shayne (Angela), Ally, Colin, and Emily; great-grandchild Mia and many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Eric MacIntosh of 54 years. Brothers Jack (Mary), Leonard (Martha), Albert, Basil, and Edward (Myrtle) Vaters. Sisters Betty (Roy) Campbell, Louise (Henry) Rohrbach, Vera (Johnny) Rogers.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2021, 2:00 pm with Father Duaine Devereaux officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, (902)849-4199. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
A special thank you to the nurses and doctors at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit who cared for mom during her last days.
