Din, Stuart Bab,s and the Donovan extended family
My sincere condolences at the passing of Bertie. Reading his obituary brought a flood of memories of growing up as a neighbour to the Donovan family. In the mid-fifties on Saturday afternoon a group of us ragtag kids would knock on the Donovan door and ask if we could watch the first TV in the neighborhood. For the next hour and a half we would be permitted to stretch out on the floor to be awed by Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy and yes Howdy Doody, As we got older we were always allowed to borrow baseball gloves for the pickup games over in the field, and often sharing those games with the three much older Donovan boys. We kids were always welcomed with good humour and generosity and these characteristics became very much part of the personality of Bertie.
His quick smile would always be followed by a joke or a story., He will be missed,
