Obituary of Mary Turnbull

Mary Turnbull It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Mary Turnbull, age 89, on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital, Glace Bay surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Rachel (Budge) Slaney. Mom enjoyed having company of family and friends. She was a lovely lady and the she was the best mom, grandma and great grandma anyone could ever have. Her faith and family were the most important things in her life. Mary was famous for her tea biscuits and blueberry cake. Mom loved to dance and looked forward to her Saturday night outings. Mom was also known well known for her quick wit. Mary is survived by sons, Gordie (Sandra), Eddie (Joannie), Ernel (Jackie), David, Fred, and Johnnie (Deanna); daughters, Greta Boland (Wayne), Marcella Byrne (Brian), Leona Baldwin(Gary), Darlene McMullin (Danny), Brenda T. Kennedy, Geraldine Carabin (Barry) and Patricia MacDougall (Gordon Brann); 27 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ted Slaney (Teresa), Quebec, special brother-in-law and godson, Connie Turnbull, sister-in-law, Noreen Slaney; special friend, Joe O’Dea as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald, infant son, John Benedict, grandson, Jamie Steele, daughter-in-law, Gerry Turnbull (nee Stubbard) Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Funeral Mass will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Father Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery.
