Marie Bernadette Lee, 63
Glace Bay
We, the family of Marie Bernadette (MacDonald) Lee, very sadly announce her passing on Feb 12th, 2021 on the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marie was the daughter of the late Clifford and Rose MacDonald.
Marie is survived by her husband of 44 years (David); son Ryan (Christina); daughter Tara (J.R.); and her two grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored, Mason and Jaxon. She is also survived by brothers Joe (Lorna), Charles “Baker” (Margie), and Barry (Anita); brother-in-law, Ian (Wendy); sister-in-law Maris; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In her younger years, Marie worked as a CNA at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Glace Bay, and then chose to become a stay-at-home mom to raise her children, Ryan, and Tara. Marie worked for many years at Sobeys’, Glace Bay, Customer Service desk, where she made many new friends with both staff, and customers. Above all else, Marie will be remembered for her unwavering selflessness, she was always putting the needs of everyone around her, before her own; She had an infectious smile and a positive attitude that was recognized by all who had the pleasure to meet her. The Sobeys’ staff quickly became her second family, and they regularly planned outings, and many other activities together. Marie will always be remembered for her famous cooking and her contagious smile.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Gallivan for his care and attention; Dr. James Bentley, and his team at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax; Arlene Billard of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre in Sydney; The VON nursing staff for their caring visits. We would also like to thank Marie's nephew, Dr. Dan MacDonald, for his caring calls, and for guiding us through this most difficult journey. A special thank you to the Palliative Care team in Sydney, particularly Dr. Aboud who cared for Marie endlessly; Dr. D’Intino, and the nursing team, who helped make Marie’s last days so comfortable. We thank you.
Visitation for Marie will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 4-6 p.m., and a Celebration of Life for Marie will take place on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 11 a.m., with Fr.
